Originally from California but raised in Texas from the age of six, this proud Alief ISD graduate considers herself a true Texan at heart. Growing up in the Alief community shaped her sense of identity and purpose, and it was here that her educational journey began—a journey that would eventually lead her back to the same district to inspire the next generation. She attended Kennedy Elementary, Olle Middle School, and Elsik High School, each one leaving a lasting imprint on her path as both a learner and an educator.

A member of Elsik High School’s Class of 1993, she looks back fondly on her school days, cherishing the friendships that have endured through the years. One of her most treasured memories is meeting her best friend in sixth grade at Olle Middle School—an enduring bond that continues to this day. Those relationships, built through shared experiences and community, became a cornerstone of who she is and a reflection of what makes Alief ISD special.

After high school, she wasn’t immediately sure what career she wanted to pursue. What she did know, however, was that she wanted to continue her education and do something meaningful. When she eventually decided to become a teacher, her heart never wavered about where she wanted to teach. Alief ISD wasn’t just a district—it was home. Choosing to build her career in the same community that had nurtured her growth was a natural and heartfelt decision.

Today, she serves as a special education teacher on the Early Childhood Assessment Team (ECAT), where she and her colleagues evaluate young students to determine if they qualify for special education services. The role is both challenging and deeply rewarding. “I love my team and enjoy working with students and parents,” she says. “We help children at an early age obtain the services they need to be successful in school.” Her passion for her work is evident—not just in her words, but in the impact she has on families who may not have known such resources existed.

Through her time as both a student and a teacher in Alief ISD, she has learned lessons that extend far beyond the classroom. Patience and independence, she explains, are two of the most valuable skills she developed. Those traits have served her well not only in her teaching career but also as a parent of twin girls. Her experience in Alief taught her how to persevere, to care deeply for others, and to lead with empathy.

Her work continues to make a profound difference in the community. By helping families access the resources and support they need for their children, she’s ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive. The Early Childhood Assessment Team plays a vital role in identifying students’ needs early on, setting them up for future success. Many parents are unaware of the services available to them, but thanks to her and her team’s dedication, more families now feel empowered to reach out for help.

Outside of her professional life, she enjoys the simple joys that keep her grounded—reading, watching TV, and spending quality time with her family. Her parents still live in the Alief area, keeping her connected to the place that has always felt like home. She also follows Alief ISD’s social media accounts to stay informed about district news and events, continuing to support the community that has shaped so much of her life.

When asked what advice she would give to students considering a career in education, her words come from experience and passion: “Teaching is not for the faint of heart, but it is one of the most rewarding careers you can have. When you see the progress a student makes, it brings such joy—not only to you but to their parents as well.” It’s this perspective—grounded in compassion and purpose—that defines her approach to education.

For her, success isn’t measured by titles or accolades, but by the positive impact one has on others. One of her proudest moments came recently when two mothers of her former students shared that she had inspired them to become teachers themselves after witnessing her dedication to their children. “I had no idea that I had made that impact on them,” she recalls. “That’s what success means to me—knowing that I’ve inspired others.”

Looking back, she credits her education in Alief ISD with shaping her into the person she is today. “The education I received in Alief helped me become a hard worker, have high expectations for myself, and to never give up,” she reflects. Those lessons continue to guide her both in and out of the classroom, reminding her daily that true success comes from perseverance, compassion, and the desire to make a difference.

Her story is one of coming full circle—from student to teacher, from learner to mentor. Through her dedication, patience, and love for the Alief community, she continues to embody the spirit of Alief ISD: a place where education, friendship, and perseverance build not only bright futures but lasting legacies.
