Pharmacy Tech Pathways

Alief Independent School District’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program continues to inspire success stories that extend far beyond the classroom. One of the most compelling recent examples is found in the Pharmacy Technician pathway, where former students have not only transitioned into the workforce but have also returned to mentor current learners, creating a powerful cycle of growth, leadership, and community impact.

The Pharmacy Tech program, led by dedicated instructor Ms. Courtney Caesar, has consistently equipped students with real-world skills, professional certifications, and the confidence to pursue careers in healthcare. Today, the success of this pathway is visible in local Walgreens and CVS pharmacies, where Alief alumni are actively coaching current students during their hands-on training.

Among these success stories are Roselyn and Brian, both graduates of Hastings High School’s Class of 2022, who now serve as mentors to current student Zahra. Their stories reflect the long-lasting influence of CTE education. Brian, in particular, has continued to advance his career by working at Walgreens while pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology, with aspirations to transition into a hospital pharmacy setting. His journey exemplifies how CTE programs open doors not just to immediate employment, but to advanced academic and professional pathways.

“Seeing our former students return to guide the next generation is a testament to the effectiveness of our programs and the dedication of our educators,” said Jennifer Baker, Director of Career and Technical Education for Alief ISD. “This is what CTE is all about—building sustainable career pathways that empower students to give back to their communities.”

Under the instruction of Ms. Caesar, the Pharmacy Technician students develop critical industry knowledge, obtain certification opportunities, and participate in clinical experiences that expose them to the day-to-day responsibilities of pharmacy professionals. The mentorship from alumni like Roselyn and Brian further enhances this real-world learning, helping current students like Zahra connect classroom knowledge with on-site practice.

The partnership between Alief CTE and local employers such as Walgreens and CVS plays a crucial role in this success. These collaborations provide students with authentic workplace experiences that reinforce the soft skills, professionalism, and technical competencies needed in the healthcare industry. As students observe and work alongside former peers who have successfully transitioned into the workforce, they gain motivation and confidence to pursue similar career trajectories.

For Roselyn and Brian, serving as mentors is not only a way to support current students but also an opportunity to reinforce their own professional growth. Their experiences illustrate how CTE alumni can continue contributing to the program long after graduation, forming a network of support that strengthens both individual outcomes and the broader Alief community.

As Zahra and her classmates continue their clinical experiences under the guidance of both their instructor and alumni mentors, they are following a pathway paved with success stories. This shared journey from classroom to career fuels inspiration, cultivates leadership, and reinforces the value of CTE education.

The Alief CTE program remains dedicated to shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals, leaders, and community contributors. Through strong instruction, industry partnerships, and a growing network of supportive alumni, Alief continues to build pathways that lead to long-term success.

Alief CTE is more than a program—it is a launchpad for future pharmacists, healthcare leaders, and mentors in the making.
