Alief Independent School District is proud to announce the launch of a groundbreaking new educational opportunity: an all-girls college preparatory school serving students in grades 6 through 12, opening in Fall 2026.
As the newest addition to Alief ISD’s growing portfolio of choice schools, the school will embody the district’s mission to provide an exemplary education that prepares all students for success in college, career, and beyond while nurturing a safe and inclusive environment where every student is seen, heard, and valued.
Leading with the district’s strategic plan in mind, the campus will offer a rigorous college preparatory curriculum focused on STEM, art, business, and civic engagement, supported by mentorship and leadership development programs.
Founding principal Tamara Albury is the newest addition to the Alief ISD principal’s team, but she’s more than ready for the challenge. “At the Young Women’s Leadership School of Alief, we are building a bold and beautiful school where every girl is empowered every day to lead, learn, and thrive," she said. “Grounded in college readiness, health and wellness, and responsible leadership, this campus is designed to support students through college and beyond. This is her school—a place where she can dream big and achieve even bigger.”
“As Board President, I am thrilled that Alief ISD is launching our first all-girls school in Fall 2026; a bold step inspired by what we heard directly from our families,” said Dr. Darlene Breaux. “Our parents and community voiced a clear desire for more innovative, empowering opportunities for our daughters, and we listened. Research shows that girls in single-gender educational environments often report higher levels of self-confidence, leadership, and academic engagement, particularly in STEM and advanced coursework. This new school will create a space where young women can thrive, lead, and envision limitless futures. It’s not just a school-it’s a promise to invest in the brilliance and potential of every girl in Alief ISD.”
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Anthony Mays is an advocate for equity in public education and has seen personally the educational impact single-gender schools can have in diverse communities. “Our goal is to provide a space where young women can build confidence, expand their horizons, and pursue their passion within a rigorous academic environment and supportive community,” he said. “This school is not only about academic excellence-it’s about empowerment, and creating opportunities for young women to lead boldly in every arena.”
The school will reflect Alief ISD’s Core Values, including:
Equity and Access: Ensuring every student has what they need to succeed.
High Expectations: Holding students to the highest academic and behavioral standards.
Student-Centered Learning: Designing opportunities around the needs, voices, and aspirations of students.
Innovation: Encouraging bold ideas that move education forward.
Community Partnership: Building strong connections with families, mentors, and leaders across Houston.
The new campus will be open not only to Alief ISD students but also to students from outside the district, offering girls across the Houston area access to a rigorous, college-focused academic environment that empowers leadership, confidence, and success in higher education.
“This new school is an exciting chapter in Alief’s commitment to expanding choices for families and developing future-ready learners,” added Dr. Mays. “We are grateful to Young Women’s Preparatory Network for their $1 million donation to Alief ISD, and we are thrilled to build something transformative for the young women of our district.”
