Alief Taylor, Elsik, and Hastings TAFE Students  Shine Bright at State Competition

Once again, Alief ISD TAFE (Texas Association of Future Educators) clubs took home top awards and honors. The organization, which is made up of over 5,000 students from across the state, focuses on positions, projects, and competitions for students who plan to become educators one day. 

Alief Taylor High School proudly maintains the State TAFE President title for the second consecutive year and the third time in four years. Jayden Petty, a junior at Alief Taylor High School, has secured this prestigious position. With this victory, Alief Taylor High School solidifies its legacy, surpassing all others in TAFE history with the most State President titles earned ever!

Kameron Keller, a student from Alief Taylor High School, served as the 2023-2024 TAFE state president. “He did an amazing job of serving this organization and made huge strides in diversifying the organization”, said Andrea Lotsu, Alief Taylor High School Education & Training teacher. “His platform includes recruiting African-American teachers and making sure students have proper representation when they step into their classrooms at school. His message has reached people all across our state”, Andrea added. Because of his tremendous leadership, the TAFE organization has created a position, TAFE Ambassador, which he will be serving in for the upcoming school year. 

For the 5th time in Alief Taylor TAFE’s history the club received the Outstanding Chapter Award.  

Furthermore, Alief Taylor High School's TAFE team has once again showcased their excellence at the State Competition. Leaving an incredible mark, they secured 8 national qualifiers and 5 gold medalists, making a significant impact on the competition.

In addition to their success, Moyin Ajayi deserves special recognition as the Judges' Choice for the Exploring Support Service Careers event, earning a well-deserved $100 scholarship.

Elsik High School also took home several gold winner certificates and a National Qualifier! Yaritza Bonilla blew the judges away with her Educator’s Rising Moment speech in Spanish, sharing her story of what has inspired her to become a teacher. She earned the Judges’ Choice award and received a scholarship. “Her passion, drive, and leadership in our club and serving as an Area IV TAFE officer has proven she will excel in the education field, and I look forward to working alongside her in the future in Alief,” said Erin Newman, Elsik High School Education & Training teacher.

Hastings High School team has demonstrated excellence, securing gold. Aracely Cervantes and Jade Darty claimed victory in the Project Visualize - Service category, showcasing dedication, innovation, and a passion for service at the Alief School Market. Jade Darty also qualified for Nationals in the Educator's Rising Moment category with her inspiring speech on her aspirations to become a teacher. Both Aracely and Jade will represent Hastings at the national competition in Washington, DC, marking a historic milestone for our school. “I am so proud of their achievements. Their dedication and commitment are truly inspiring, and it’s evident that their success is a result of their relentless efforts and passion for excellence”, expressed Tracy Shakes, Education and Training instructor at Hastings High School.

Their remarkable achievements not only stand as a testament to their tireless dedication and exceptional abilities but also serve as a shining representation of Alief ISD's values. We are profoundly proud of our TAFE students, not only for their impressive accomplishments, but also for the manner in which they conducted themselves, embodying the core principles of integrity and excellence that define our school community.
