Congratulations to Sherita Harmon, our Alief ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year!

The Marshall Center for Advanced Careers is proud to celebrate our 2024-2025 District Secondary Teacher of The Year, Sherita Harmon. Mrs. Harmon is a devoted wife, mother with a passion for education, philanthropy, and community engagement. Originally from Memphis, TN, she moved to Houston in 2007 with a job opportunity at Remington College. Her academic journey includes earning a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from Crichton College in 2007, followed by a Master of Business Administration in 2010 and a Master of Healthcare Administration in 2013, both from Texas Woman’s University Houston Campus.

Since 1998, Mrs. Harmon has been a Certified Pharmacy Technician, and her professional background predominantly revolves around the healthcare sector, encompassing roles in home health care, Allied Health Education, and the pharmaceutical field. She served as the Allied Health Department Chairperson and Externship Coordinator in a post-secondary proprietary school setting.

Her career path eventually led her to Alief ISD.  She started at Hastings High School as a CTE Health Science Technology teacher. Currently, Mrs. Harmon teaches Health Science Theory with Clinical Rotation and Health Science Theory- Patient Care Technician at the Marshall Center for Advanced Careers. Her instructional repertoire also includes courses such as Medical Terminology and Principles of Health Science. In 2012, she founded the Blessed To Be A Blessing Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to aiding individuals in need. Subsequently, in 2016, she established H.U.G.S. Unlimited (Helping Underserved Girls Succeed), a nonprofit mentoring program catering to high school girls aged 15 to 18.

Beyond the classroom, she actively engages in various roles and initiatives, serving as a liaison for the HCA Healthcare and MCAC Mentorship Program, New Teacher Mentor for the District, Clinical Rotation Coordinator, and more. Current notable roles include being a Chapter Advisory for the National Technical Honor Society for CTE, HOSA Co-Advisor, Campus Instructional Leadership Representative, and MCAC Senior Team Advisor.

Mrs. Harmon is shaping the future of healthcare professionals, as a mentor, a philanthropist, and an advocate for community well-being. She brings a great deal of energy to her work, seamlessly integrating education and community efforts to shape a brighter future. When asked to share her philosophy of education Mrs. Harmon said, β€œIt is about igniting a passion within my students by being an example. I show them the confidence that I have in what I know and what I do. I set expectations of them and help them to follow through.”

At the Marshall Center for Advanced Careers, we are grateful for everything that Mrs. Harmon does for our campus and our students. We celebrate this great accomplishment, and we are excited to see what the future holds for our District Secondary Teacher of The Year.
