Student artists from Kerr High School and Taylor High School were honored by Harris County Precinct 4 at a special reception on July 31, celebrating their outstanding artwork and contributions to the community.
The reception recognized students whose artwork was selected for exhibition throughout the summer at the Tracy Gee Community Center. The exhibition provided an opportunity for the talented young artists to showcase their creativity and share their work with community members.
Among those recognized was Ingrid Aponte Aguilar, a student at Kerr High School, who received additional recognition for winning the Harris County Bus Wrap Contest. Ingrid's colored-pencil artwork was selected to be featured on a Harris County bus, which will travel throughout Houston, giving residents across the community an opportunity to see her artwork.
“Our partnership with Harris County Precinct 4 showcased the amazing work created by art students, highlighted the importance of fine arts, and made the students’ artwork more visible and accessible to the Alief community,” said Dr. Reynolds, Kerr High School art teacher. “This partnership also empowered high school students with valuable opportunities to engage in meaningful community service and to collaborate with National Art Honor Society students across Alief ISD!”
Ms. Mora, Taylor High School art teacher, also reflected on the significance of the exhibition and reception. “It was truly special to see our National Art Honor Society students have their artwork displayed at the Tracy Gee Community Center,” said Ms. Mora. “The reception made our students feel valued, celebrated, and proud of their accomplishments. Hearing members of the community express genuine excitement and appreciation for their artwork was incredibly inspiring. As their teacher, it was rewarding to watch them recognize that their creativity has the power to connect with and inspire others beyond the classroom.”
The accomplishment is a wonderful example of how student creativity can extend beyond the classroom and make an impact throughout the community.
The following Alief ISD students attended the reception and were recognized for their artwork:
Grace Alvarado – Taylor High School
Diego Benavides – Taylor High School
Ingrid Aponte Aguilar – Kerr High School
Peter Dang – Kerr High School
Monserrat Portillo – Kerr High School
Special recognition is also deserved for their dedicated art teachers, Ms. Mora and Dr. Reynolds. Their guidance, encouragement, and commitment to developing student creativity have helped provide these young artists with opportunities to share their talents beyond the school campus.
Alief ISD is proud to celebrate these talented students and their teachers for representing the district through their creativity, hard work, and artistic expression. Their achievements demonstrate the value of arts education and the many opportunities available to students when their talents are encouraged and nurtured.
Congratulations to all of the student artists for this well-deserved recognition!
