Camden Park has just opened in Alief, bringing a fresh and exciting new place for families and neighbors to enjoy. Located at 2951 Wilcrest Drive, this brand-new 3.4-acre park is now the largest park in the Westchase District. It was officially opened to the public on April 12, 2025, after years of planning and construction. The park was created to give the people of Alief more green space to relax, play, and spend time together. “Camden Park is a new destination park in West Houston, developed in partnership with the City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department and the city’s office of economic development.”, shared Irma Sanchez, president and CEO of Westchase District.
Camden Park was designed to have something for everyone. There’s a large open lawn where kids can run around or where visitors can bring a blanket and enjoy a sunny afternoon. A large pavilion has also been built, allowing the community to host free concerts, performances, and festivals throughout the year. Families with young children will love the playground, which features fun elements like a crawl-through tunnel, a stick forest, a rooftop terrace with panoramic views of the entire park, and even a splash area where kids can cool off.
People who have dogs will also be happy to hear that Camden Park includes a special dog park. It’s fenced in and has different areas for big and small dogs, as well as hills and tunnels for them to play on. For those who prefer a quieter experience, there are shaded seating areas with swings, as well as an outdoor reading room where visitors can borrow books for free.
Camden Park is not just a place for playing; it’s also a place for staying active and getting involved. The park plans to offer free activities all year long, like Zumba, tai chi, samba classes, running clubs, and fitness boot camps. "At Camden Park, we bring the energy and joy of Brazilian dance to the heart of the community. It’s amazing to see people of all ages come together, move, and celebrate life,” said Renee Veloz, dancer from Sambabom Dance Group. “We’re proud to share our culture here and make every class feel like a party."
The creation of Camden Park was a significant team effort. The City of Houston bought the land in 2016, and many companies and organizations helped pay for the park's construction. Camden Property Trust, BGE, Inc., CenterPoint Energy, H-E-B, and Phillips 66 are just a few of the major supporters who made it possible. The park was designed by talented architects who included beautiful gardens with Texas-native plants, rain gardens to help with drainage, and large oak trees that were carefully relocated from Westheimer Road.
Camden Park is more than just a new park — it’s a big step forward for Alief. It’s a place where everyone, regardless of age, can find something to enjoy. Whether you want to listen to music, get some exercise, play with your kids, walk your dog, read a book, or just enjoy the outdoors, Camden Park is a fantastic new spot to do it. “The people of Alief now have a beautiful new space to make memories and spend time with family and friends,” said Maria Garcia, a district employee.
