Alief Student Spotlight: Isabella Gutierrez

At just 17 years old, Isabella Gutierrez is already making a meaningful impact through her leadership and advocacy as a member of the Superintendent Student Advisory Council. With aspirations of pursuing a career in the aviation field, Isabella is passionate about using her voice to represent students in her community, especially those who may not always feel heard.

Isabella joined the Superintendent Student Advisory Council with a clear purpose: to speak up for her community and advocate for students whose voices often go unheard. For her, being part of the council is empowering. “Being a member means having a microphone in a room full of attentive people,” Isabella shared. “Everyone is watching and valuing your presence.”

Through the council, Isabella believes students are given a rare and important opportunity to participate in conversations and decisions that are traditionally made at the administrative level. She values the chance for students to contribute perspectives that can influence meaningful change across the district.

One of the topics the council has recently discussed is the impact of TELPAS on multilingual students. Isabella has been especially passionate about advocating for students who face language barriers and challenges. She emphasized the importance of communication and accessibility for all students and shared her desire to help translate the Ebo language so that families and students can better understand important information and feel included.

The collaborative nature of the council has also left a lasting impression on Isabella. She explained that members work together by sharing ideas, discussing concerns, and finding solutions that can benefit students across the district. “We collaborate together to pave the way for those less fortunate that normally do not have a say,” she said.

Through her experience on the council, Isabella has developed valuable skills including patience, teamwork, and leadership. She believes these skills will continue to guide her both academically and professionally in the future.

Beyond meetings and discussions, Isabella’s time on the council has also created memorable experiences and friendships. One of her favorite moments was helping decorate the float for the Alief parade, where council members came together in celebration of community pride and school spirit.

Looking ahead, Isabella hopes to continue identifying issues affecting students and addressing them in meaningful and effective ways. Her dedication to advocacy, inclusion, and student representation reflects the powerful role student voices play in shaping a stronger and more supportive educational environment.
