The Alief Superstars wrapped up an incredible 2025–26 basketball season with achievements that highlighted their talent, determination, and teamwork both on and off the court.
The season’s excitement reached a high point on February 28 during the Individual Basketball Skills competition, where three athletes—Dan Martin, Leondro, and Santiago—each earned gold medals for their outstanding performances. Their focus, perseverance, and dedication were on full display, setting an inspiring example for their teammates and representing Alief with pride.
Earlier in the season, the Superstars competed in two tournaments held on February 21 and March 7. The first tournament served as a classification event, allowing athletes to be placed in the appropriate skill-level brackets. The second tournament brought the competition to its peak, with teams competing for medals in their divisions. Both Alief Superstars teams rose to the challenge, earning silver medals in their respective brackets and showcasing the hard work they put in throughout the season.
At Hopper Middle School, Coaches Lori Jaundoo and Shany Marshall guided their team to an impressive performance, while at Aragon Middle School, Coaches Antoinette Robinson and Tracy Bonay led their athletes with dedication and encouragement. Their leadership played a key role in preparing the teams for competition and fostering an environment where every athlete could grow, build confidence, and shine.
Beyond the games and tournaments, the season also included a memorable moment earlier in the school year when the athletes had the opportunity to meet Houston Texans wide receiver, Nico Collins. The visit brought excitement and inspiration to the team, giving the Superstars a chance to connect with a professional athlete who encouraged them to keep working hard and chasing their goals.
The tournaments served as a perfect way to kick off spring break, leaving the Superstars, their families, and the Alief community beaming with pride. As March marked the close of the 2025–26 Special Olympics season, the accomplishments of the Alief Superstars stand as a powerful reminder of perseverance, teamwork, and the joy of athletic achievement.
