Kerr High School Senior Ryan Nguyen earned All-State Honors for the third time. Ryan also earned a place in the 2026 Texas All-State Large School Mixed Choir.
With this accomplishment, Ryan can now officially be called the first three-year All-Stater from Kerr High School, a historic milestone that reflects his exceptional talent and unwavering dedication. This year, Ryan earned third chair in the top mixed choir on bass one, one of the most competitive voice parts in the audition process — a remarkable distinction among the very best young vocalists in Texas.
Ryan, a proud member of the Kerr High School Chorale, performed with the 2026 Texas All-State Large School Mixed Choir at the renowned Henry B. González Convention Center during the 2026 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention.
Sponsored by the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), the Texas All-State competition represents the highest honor a Texas music student can achieve. Founded in 1920 and headquartered in Austin, TMEA is a nonprofit professional association with more than 20,400 members, including over 14,100 school music educators, all dedicated to supporting excellence in music education.
The path to All-State is rigorous and highly competitive. Approximately 60,000 students begin the audition process each year across 33 TMEA Regions. Musicians advance through District and Region auditions before competing in one of eight Area competitions. Only the highest-ranking performers at Area qualify for All-State — representing just the top 3% of those who initially audition.
Selected students rehearse for four intensive days under the direction of nationally recognized conductors before delivering a final performance for thousands of attendees at the annual TMEA Clinic/Convention.
Ryan sings under the direction of Vanessa Winslow and Allen Silagan, dedicated members of TMEA who have supported and guided his musical journey. His continued success reflects not only his natural talent but also his discipline, perseverance, and passion for choral excellence.
This marks Ryan’s third time performing in a TMEA All-State organization — a rare and distinguished accomplishment that places him among the most elite student musicians in Texas.
Ryan is the proud child of Becky and Sunny Nguyen, who have supported his musical growth every step of the way.
Ryan’s achievement brings tremendous pride to the Kerr High School community. His success exemplifies the power of commitment, the strength of our fine arts programs, and the extraordinary heights students can reach through hard work and dedication.
