About the Rees Library

Our library is a busy space where students access technology and combine 21st century information skills to create and extend their classroom learning.  This year we are adding additional lap tops and iPads to increase student access to the technology they are learning to utilize in the classroom.

Developing a love of reading is an important focus in our library. Student's book suggestions are solicited to encourage a feeling of student ownership and to continue to build a relevant and exciting library collection.  Part of this collection is the myOn online reading program, which gives students access to over 8,300 online books and provides a platform for students to self-monitor their reading.

The library is continually transforming to meet the changing needs of our students, families, and staff.  Through support from our school community, we updated the library furniture to make the learning space flexible and inviting. Our library offers a place for student collaboration, club and group meetings, technology instruction, family events, traditional library instruction and access, and more. Please come by and see the exciting activities we have going on.

Meet our Librarian

Amy Owens - Librarian

I have been working in Alief ISD for 27 years. This is my 18th year working in the library. My goal for each child who attends Rees Elementary is to become a true user of information and develop a love of reading. The format of that information will continue to change, but the ability to access information and develop a love of reading will serve our students throughout their lives. I am here to help you and your child, and I encourage you to visit the library during the school day or during one of our Family Library Night events and enjoy our library.

Stephanie Cartwright - Librarian Aide

Mrs. Cartwright joined the library staff this school year.  She is available to help students circulate books and find resources in the library.
