Marla Brumfield Lewis is a proud K–12 Alief ISD graduate that returned home and worked her way up from a middle school teacher and coach to serving in her current roll as Alief ISD’s Director of Athletics.

Upon graduation from Elsik High School she continued her basketball career at Rice University where she went on to be the first player from Rice and the Western Athletic Conference drafted to the WNBA.

While playing in the WNBA she earned a master’s in education from Prairie View A&M University. Also, during the WNBA offseason she entered the coaching ranks as an assistant basketball coach at Rice University then a middle school math teacher and coach.

Having had many coaching stops in Alief ISD her most notable was as the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Hastings from 2010-2013 where she returned the Bears to the play-offs for the first time in nearly ten years.

Coach Brumfield Lewis prides herself on being a productive citizen of Alief and providing its student-athletes and coaches with the best facilities, resources, and environment to become positive, productive citizens as well.
