Current 8th graders interested in joining AVID as 9th graders at Taylor, Hastings, or Elsik for the 2021-2022 school year can access the student application here. Applications will be accepted through March 5, 2021. Students must complete the online application and a virtual interview which will be scheduled after the application submission deadline. Teacher recommendations are also a part of the application process.
At the high school level in Alief ISD, AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is implemented as an elective class which students attend daily as part of their schedule. In the class, students receive additional academic, social, and emotional support that will help them succeed in their most rigorous courses and prepare them for the intensity of college and the demands of a career. The aim of AVID is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for sustainable success in their college and career choices. For additional insight into AVID and the high school elective course, please visit www.avid.org/what-avid-is, or contact Monica Baines, Director of Advanced Academics, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please note: Alief Early College does not have an AVID application process. AVID is not offered at Kerr High School High.
