Alief ISD schools named National Blue Ribbon Schools.
Kerr High School and Alief Early College High School have been recognized as 2016 National Blue Ribbon Schools, a distinction that is rare for two schools in the same school district. This year, Alief ISD was the only Texas school district with two high schools selected for this distinction and only 26 public schools in the state of Texas were nominated for this honor.
The National Blue Ribbon program honors schools that have either consistently high performing students or students who have greatly improved their achievement to high levels. The United States Department of Education (USDE) put this program into effect in an effort to identify the schools with the best leadership and academic qualities. Since 1982, USDE has given this prestigious award to only a select number of schools with students who maintain high academic goals.
