Mata Wellness Team, along with the Girls with Goals (sponsored by Carolyn Dennis) and Mata Boys Club (Growing Young Men sponsored by Jarris Martin) conducted their 3rd annual sock/T-shirt drive. This year the donation list included hygiene items such as toothpaste, deodorant, soap and toothbrushes. They collected well over 1500 items total from the faculty, staff and students and the students who gave were rewarded with a glow-in-the-dark dance where food and drink were provided by the student teachers from Alief Hastings. The items donated were given to a couple different groups. These groups included but were not limited to: the Covenant House, which provides housing and supportive services to youth facing homelessness, and St. Joseph’s House, which aids in the recovery of those living with mental health disorders.
