Wellness Wednesday - New Guidelines
As we focus on keeping our campus safe, our students healthy in mind and body, and our work environment productive, we are setting new standards for visitation during lunch, and ask for the cooperation and help of our families in 2 areas.
- Please make sure your child arrives at school in the morning with their lunch boxes (there are many options for insulated lunch kits in stores). HEALTHY lunch drop-offs should only be made in the event of an emergency, not a daily habit. This teaches our students responsibility, reduces interruptions to instruction and productivity, and keeps our campus safe with lessened visitors.
- Lunch visitation days are reserved to specific grade level Wellness Wednesdays (healthy lunches only) each month (Please click on Wellness Wednesday for the schedule that was sent home in May and July). Although we welcome parent visits on campus, we value our student's opportunity for socialization more. Lunch and recess offer our students a chance to increase their literacy by building upon their oral and listening skills in an unstructured environment. We are also making the cafeteria a "technology-free" zone during lunch, to ensure our parents and students engage in dialogue to continue building their literacy, instead of allowing students to watch media on parent devices.
We hope our families respect the school environment as an educational setting, and respect our need to change practices to ensure campus safety and security, student health and well-being, and productive work environments in both the office and classrooms.
For the parents who would like to visit us on a regular basis, we invite you to come to our Family Center, Contact Ms. Cortes for more information. We also encourage parents and families to attend our MC^2 Parent Meeting Nights on September 13, January 17, and April 16, and many other F.A.M.E. (Families Actively and Meaningfully Engaged) events throughout the school year.
Thank you for your support!
