Alief offers many program options for advanced level students through the Advanced Academics Department. Students who are identified as gifted through the district's screening process are eligible for gifted services. At the elementary and intermediate level, identified students participate in pull-out and/or push-in services, full-time inclusion, or a full-time gifted class model through the AIMS program. Secondary students identified as gifted receive GT services through the Alief Advanced Academic Courses (Alief AAC) and Advanced Placement (AP) classes. All students may sign up for Alief AAC and AP courses through the open enrollment process.
The goal of Alief’s Advanced Academics Department is to provide differentiated opportunities for students to elaborate, think originally, think flexibly, and produce new ideas as they become self-directed learners who are competent in thinking, research, and communications.
The Advanced Academics Department also works to promote college awareness and college preparation through Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), and to provide access to college entrance testing opportunities (PSAT, SAT & ACT) throughout the school year .Monica BainesDirector of Advanced AcademicsAngela PolkAdvanced Academics SpecialistElaine Shipp - Secretary281-498-8110, ext. 29058
