Every Child Has a Right to an Education
The federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Improvements Act and Texas state law protect the rights of homeless children and youth to receive a free and appropriate public education. McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act is a federal law that ensures immediate enrollment and educational stability for homeless children and youth. The term “homeless children and youth” means individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason. Students who are homeless are not required to provide proof of residency before enrolling. The mission of Alief Independent School District's Homeless and Unaccompanied Youth Services Program is to assist students and families who are homeless. The goal of our program is to address these students' educational needs and ensure academic success.
