Hello and welcome to art class!

My name is Gladys Cheng. I have more than 17 years of teaching experience. In addition to art, I have taught Bilingual Kindergarten, self-contained, GT Math, and Science. I am currently serving in the following District Level Committees: Alief ISD Superintendent's Teacher Advisory Committee and Educational Improvement Council. Teacher of the Year 2019 and Teacher of the Year 2009.

My favorite Dalai Lama's quote about Education is, "When educating the minds of our youth, we must not forget to educate their hearts". This quote is meaningful to me because we need to educate our children's hearts with empathy and compassion so they become caring citizens who can build positive meaningful relationships. Our art class is our second home where students are kind to everyone and everything, have the opportunity to communicate ideas, motivate and support each other, collaborate, and create art together. One competitive advantage of being a former classroom teacher is the ability to make meaningful lesson delivery to make connections across the curriculum.

Thank you for visiting Fine Arts page.

Warmest regards,

Hello and welcome to music!

My name is Sarah Silva, and I am excited to be teaching here in Alief ISD!  I have been studying music, and working with students for many years and it brings me great joy to spread the knowledge of music education to the next generation.

I believe that music has the ability to motivate and engage students in a way that will help them in all aspects of their life.  Music gives the ability to express oneself creatively, and without judgment.  In my classroom I strive to create an open, and welcoming environment.  When a student walks into my classroom, I want them to feel safe and accepted into a community where they can learn how to work together.  Music has brought great joy into my life, and I want to share that joy with every student in my class.
