Dear Kerr Parents and Students,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Kerr Family and to the start of the 2019–2020 school year! I hope you have had a restful and enjoyable summer. I also hope you are looking forward to the beginning of your high school experience at Kerr. Our mission at Kerr is to give students the freedom and responsibility to take control of their learning and to help them develop the critical thinking, social, and academic skills necessary for success in their post secondary education or career. We look forward to a productive partnership with you during this journey, ensuring our students achieve their highest potential.
To help in your transition to Kerr, we invite you to attend a couple of events before the start of school.
- The National Honor Society (NHS) and Student Council will host a “Cub Camp” for all new students on Friday, August 9th from 9:00a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This is a good time for you to tour the building, ask questions, and get to know each other and some of the upperclassmen. Parents, this “Welcome Time” is just for our new students. Students can be dropped off as early as 8:30 a.m. and should be picked up promptly at 4:00 p.m. Please see the flyer for more details.
- On Monday, August 12th, we will host a New Parent/Student meeting from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Theater. This meeting is very important as we will be talking about what students and parents can expect during their first day and year at Kerr and how state and national assessments, graduation requirements, credits and campus expectations fit together for a successful four years at Kerr.
Please remember, all 9th and 10th graders at Kerr have a summer reading assignment. Please be sure you have completed this assignment before the first day of school. If you do not have the assignment, please go to our website at www.aliefisd.net/kerr to find the appropriate assignment for your English class located under the Academic Resources link.
If for any reason your child is not attending Kerr next year, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can update your child’s records and can accept new students from our waiting list.
Classes begin on Wednesday, August 14th at 7:15 a.m. Students will report to their advisory location and receive their official schedule at that time. Advisory rosters will be posted in the hallways and Kerr staff will be available to help students find the correct advisory.
Fine Arts Summer Camps If you are participating in one of our fine arts programs, please make arrangements to attend the assigned summer camp for your program. Camp dates and times can be found on the flyer.
I am looking forward to meeting each of you as we start this new and exciting year together! If you have any questions please call the school at 281-983-8484.
See you soon!
