Dear Miller Families,
I trust everyone has settled in well from a wonderful winter break and has returned with the continued emphasis on growing our students. Our top priorities for this semester are the continued health/safety of students and staff, building meaningful relationships, student academic growth, and closing the achievement gap for many of our students. The need to address the student learning loss caused by this pandemic is great. As we move forward in our second semester, I continue to impress upon our Miller families, the importance of family engagement in school. Research shows that when families are actively involved with their child/children’s school, students tend to have better school attendance, higher test scores, achieve better grades, and see greater achievement in the core subjects. Students also demonstrate a more positive attitude about school which often results in improved behavior in school.
Please continue to ensure your child has a daily routine, and supervise their completion of homework or incomplete schoolwork assigned to be completed at home. Even if it’s just reminders to get their work done, your input will be greatly appreciated. Check home access regularly for updates on grades and attendance. Communicate with your child’s teacher; continue to have parent–teacher interactions and discussions about your child’s progress. We are in our second and final semester and working fervently to prepare our Miller Mavericks for success on their STAAR assessments in May as well as a successful completion of their school year. I appreciate your support in reinforcing at home, what they are learning here at school. Thank you for all you do to encourage and ensure the success of our Miller Mavericks.
