Special Education Programs/Services

  • Alief ISD provides a continuum of special education services and program is meet each student's individualized needs. Services can include advanced supports, accommodations and modifications, in class support, specialized programs, homebound, and instruction in other facilties. 

     

    Specialized Programs

    Alief ISD offers a variety of programs that are typically in full day special education programs. If a student requires a specialized program, the ARD committee will make the determination based on current student data. The specialized programs avaliable in Alief ISD include:

     

    Total Learning Center (TLC)

    The Total Learning Center provides services and supports for students with severe and profound disabilities in elementary through high school who exhibit significant cognitive and communication impairments. 

    Preschool Program for Children with Disabilties (PPCD)

    The Preschool Program for Children with Disabilties (PPCD) offers students identified with disabilties who are three years of age to kindergarden. 

    Early Childhood Reaching Excellence and Accelerating Communication to New Heights (EC REACH)

    The Early Childhood Reaching Excellence and Accelerating Communication to New Heights (EC REACH) provides services to pre-school age childen whose needs are primarily driven by Autism Spectrum Disorders. 

    Reaching Excellence and Accelerating Communication to New Heights (REACH I)

    The Reaching Excellence and Accelerating Communication to New Heights (REACH I) provides services for students in elementary through high school who are significantly impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorder. Students typically have significant needs in behavior, communication, and learning readiness. 

    Reaching Excellence and Accelerating Communication to New Heights (REACH II-III)

    The Reaching Excellence and Accelerating Communication to New Heights (REACH II-III) program provides services for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade who have support needs related to Autism Spectrum Disorders. Placement is primarily in a general education classroom with support and additional support in a specialized setting to address very specific needs. 

    Structure/Discovery Center

    The Sturcture program (kindergarden through fifth grade) and the Discover Center (fifth through twelfth grade) provides services to students with significant behavioral needs in a highly structured setting. 

    Learning in Functional Environments (LIFE)

    The Learning in Functional Environments (LIFE) programs provide services for students with siginifcant cognitive disability require a curriculum focusing on prerequisite skills in a structured, self-contained setting. 

    18+ Applied Learning for Adult Students (ALFAS) LIFE

    The 18+ Applied Learning for Adult Students (ALFAS) LIFE program provides services for adult students who have met the course credit requirements for graduation, continue to have employability/self-help needs related to their disabilties, and need a supportive learning environment in developing vocational work skills, adaptive behaviors, and independent daily living skills.  

    18+ Applied Learning for Adult Students (ALFAS) REACH

    The 18+ Applied Learning for Adult Students (ALFAS) REACH program provides services for adult students with Austism Spectrum Disorders who have met the course credit requirements for graduation, continue to have employability/self-help needs related to their disabilties, and need a supportive learning environment in developing vocational work  skills, adaptive behaviors, and independent daily living skills.  

    18+ Transitioning Adult Learning into Success (TALIS)

    The 18+ Transitioning Adult Learning into Success (TALIS) program provides a work-based setting for adult students with cognitive disabilties between the ages of 18 through 21 to prepare them for their post-secondary transition plan. 

    Specialized Reading

    The Specialized Reading Program provides students, who are multiple grade levels behind in reading, a self-contained setting to increase reading skills in small group instruction.
