As a teacher new to Alief, we are providing a set of professional development opportunities designed just for you. Alief U is designed to assist you in: transitioning to a new job, providing a forum for meeting other teachers in your content area, and introducing you to district personnel who are here to help you succeed.The summer Institute for Alief U Undergraduate Studies will be held August 3-6, 2020 at Taylor High School. - STOIC 1 - 7 hours - Participants will explore how to set up a successful classroom management system by investigating and applying components from the proactive and positive management system of STOIC. STOIC components: Structure the classroom for success, Teach clear, well defined behavioral expectations, Observe student behavior, Interact positively, and Correct fluently. The face-to-face session is 6 hours and the last hour of credit comes from an implementation reflection assignment (IRA). The assignment will be turned in and is required for course credit.
- Action Based Learning - 7 hours - Participants will learn researched-based information and strategies: to use purposeful movement to increase academic learning and utilize the natural link between the body and the brain to maximize learning.This training includes a lot of movement, please come dressed appropriately. The Face-to-face session is 6 hours and the last hour of credit comes from an implementation reflection assignment (IRA). The assignment will be turned in and is required for course credit.
- Meaningful Work/Content - 14 hours - Participants will be scheduled for meaningful work/content based on his/her teaching assignment.
- STOIC 2 - 7 hours - Participants will be scheduled for this course during the school year and information will be sent via email in September.
New hires will be preregistered for all of the courses above.
