Children Interacting After School (CIA)
The Children Interacting After School (CIA) Department offers a six-week summer program for students currently enrolled in a 21st Century Community Learning Centers program at their campus.

Invitations are sent out by coaches, band directors, and other program/team leaders. Additional information will be posted here as logistical information becomes available and finalized. DESCRIPTION & ADDITIONAL INFO
The Student/ Teacher ratio does not exceed 18:1. The program is staffed by teachers appropriately certified for the Bilingual/ESL program for which the student has been placed per LPAC decision upon enrollment. A summary of student progress is provided to parents/guardians at the conclusion of the program as well as the next year’s teacher. The district maintains records of each student’s eligibility, attendance and progress.

Eligibility is determined by a student’s individual ARD committee and is determined by a documented need for ESY based on regression/recoupment data, degree of progress towards IEP goals and objectives, emerging skills/breakthrough opportunities, interfering behavior, nature and severity of disability and special circumstances.
Eligible students are invited to attend ESY by the ARD committee. Parents can register their eligible child through their home campus.
DESCRIPTION & ADDITIONAL INFO
Extended School Year (ESY) services is an individualized instructional program for eligible students with disabilities that is provided beyond the regular school year. The need for ESY services must be determined on an individual basis by the admission, review, and dismissal (ARD) committee. The individualized education program (IEP) developed for ESY must include goals and objectives.

Students will engage in STEM courses such as 3D Printing, Robotics, Coding, Engineering, Makey Makey, and Forensic Science to help inspire STEM interest and engagement. Students will use the 4 C’s (critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication).
Outgoing 3rd/ 4th graders attending Alief schools who are not invited to regular summer school
Parents with students in the 3rd and 4th grade will receive an email from Alief ISD with a link to the registration form.
Girlstart
Session I: June 5- June 8
Girls will engage and participate in hands-on STEM activities, using relevant technology, and collaborative team building. Girlstart aspires to be the national leader in designing and implementing innovative, high quality STEM education programs that inspire girls to transform our world. https://girlstart.org/
Outgoing 4th/ 5th grade girls attending Alief schools who are not invited to regular summer school. Campuses that have Girlstart are recruited first. Then, it will open up to other 4th/ 5th grade campuses, if space permits.

The Summer Language Institute (SLI) is specifically designed to serve the needs of Emergent Bilingual students within their first year in US schools. Newcomer students in grades 4-11 with Beginning English proficiency are immersed in a language-rich learning environment. SLI students have access to high-performing teachers with expertise in high SIOP implementation (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol).
Students have access to academic vocabulary and comprehensible content through the application of content and language objectives. They learn language and grade appropriate content through hands-on activities, project-based learning and use of manipulatives. Teachers integrate listening, speaking, reading and writing within scaffolded lessons and projects.
Students participate in grade appropriate field trips to local museums, the aquarium, the zoo, or factories. The Summer Language Institute embeds multicultural projects and celebrations to showcase pride in the diversity of the Alief community.
