Alief Points of Pride

    • Kerr High School assistant principal Sara Tones was recently named the Campus Administrator of the Year by the Texas School Counselor Association.
    • Alief ISD middle school and high school students earned 302 awards in the Regional Scholastic Writing Awards. Albright Middle School: Anuoluwapo Adeoye, Erica Carranza, Lisa Le, Jenny Luong and Isabella Valerio; Alief Middle School: Lya Galindo, Titus Qiu, Sky Ramirez and Joshua Salu; Holub Middle School: Joshua Rubio and Angel Zamora; Killough Middle School: Jennie Duong and Shana Taboh; O’Donnell Middle School: Layal Alia (2 Gold Keys), Chelsea Eboh, Azeemah Sadiq and Abigail Tzic; Elsik High School: Tamia Bradford and Sarah Dinh; Kerr High School: Chelsea Burnett, Hannah Ghebrelul, Loreal Long, Aidan Ngo, Tricia Nweke, Danny Pham and Kimberly Vuong; Taylor High School: Autumn Dismuke and Jennifer Tran.
    • Elsik High School teacher Keri Reynolds and her students’ art work were featured in the January 2022 issue of the nationally published School Arts Magazine.
    • Alief ISD Board President, Ann Williams, was recently named the Houston Area Alliance of Black School Educators (HAABSE) School Board Member of the Year.
    • Alief ISD was spotlighted as a part of the cover story from the December 2021 issue of Texas Monthly. The in-depth article features the great work by Alief ISD team members at Language Institute for Newcomers (LINC) and the Center for Advanced Careers.
    • Alief ISD students from Elsik, Hastings and Taylor High Schools participated in National Signing Day. Athletes included: Elsik High School - Kameryn Bell and Ja’Marcus Ledet; Hastings High School - Cesar Alanis, Josiah Jones and David Oke, Mya Bourgeois, Basil Agboola; Taylor High School - Michael Eneh, Nathanyal Ridgeway, Emmanuel Oguns, Chizara Alegbe, Tashaun Pennington, Blaise Tita, Albert Edet, Everett Haven, Ethan Cox and Tyler King.
    • Alief ISD middle school and high school art students earned 47 awards in the Regional Scholastic Art Awards. Students brought home 12 Gold Key, 13 Silver Key, and 22 Honorable Mentions for art. Congratulations to the following art winners: Gold Key - Joshua Jimenez (Taylor), Jailene Cabrera (Elsik), Clara Centino (Elsik), Kendyl Gettman (Elsik), Javier Ordonez (Elsik), Sherin Tzoc (Elsik), Gabriel Martinez (Elsik), Quoc Doan (Holub), Aranzazu Carreno (Kerr), Thu Pham (Kerr), Zoe Hall (Kerr) and Erika Perez (O’Donnell).
    • Thirteen Alief ISD schools (Bush Elementary School, Hicks Elementary School, Holmquist Elementary School, Liestman Elementary School, Outley Elementary School, Budewig Intermediate School, Miller Intermediate School, Owens Intermediate School, Alief Middle School, Olle Middle School, Elsik High School, Elsik Ninth Grade Center and Kerr High School) received the Texas School Counselor Association (TSCA) CREST Awards.
    • Alief ISD high school students were selected for the HCA Houston Healthcare Student Mentorship Program. The 29 students who were selected are a part of the Health Sciences Program at the Center for Advanced Careers. The mentorship program will last five months and includes meeting with HCA employees for coaching and career planning.
    • Alief Theatre Departments are heading to national-level competitions in Indiana in June 2022. The following students were recognized at the state level and qualified for nationals: Elsik HS - Rafael Reyes, Toan Ta, Xavier Sanchez and Ja’Miya Seaton; Hastings HS - Ngan Vo and Jenny Garcia; Kerr HS – Alanna “Shell” Le, Chriss Doradea, Nicholas Ryan, Aidan Davis, Eric Kwon, Jaden Jones, Amanda Tran, Kathy Nguyen, Yahaira Guevara and Alexander “Huy” Vo; Taylor HS - Jennifer Falcon, Cassandra Perez, Diara Garcia, Lenny Colon and Angel Vega.
    • Alief ISD Board Vice President Dr. Darlene Breaux received the 2021 Texas Council of Professors of Educational Administration (TCPEA) Dissertation of the Year Award.
