  • Coming Together in Times of Crisis

To say that this year has been exceptional is an understatement. From the transition to virtual learning on a dime, to implementing health and safety protocols for our staff and students who come in person to work and learn, to ensuring the continued distribution of food for our students through drive-through pick-up, we have all worked together to make the best out of this unprecedented situation.

So, as we continue into the holiday season and through winter break, I encourage each of you to continue practicing social distancing, mask wearing and diligent hand washing to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 throughout the Alief community. I know it will be difficult not to gather with friends or family during the holidays, but please consider your own health, the health of your family members, friends and community. We are all in this together!

I want to make you aware that the district is rolling out free rapid COVID-19 testing for staff and students. Students and staff who develop symptoms while at school will be offered a voluntary test. In order for students to receive a test, they will need to have a parent or guardian permission form on file. Staff or students who develop symptoms away from school can receive a free test at our district central location at Crump Stadium. The Crump Stadium South Entrance ( 12321 High Star Dr., Houston, Texas 77072) testing site is currently up and running and testing is available Monday -Friday, 8:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Saturday: 8:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. Testing will roll out to all campuses across the district on January 18, 2021.

In this issue of the Communicator, we are thrilled to announce that Alief ISD has been named a Top Workplace by the Houston Chronicle for the fifth year in a row. The designation is tabulated based on anonymous third-party surveys. We are incredibly humbled and thrilled to know that the staff members of Alief ISD ranked the district as a top workplace.

And finally, I’d like to thank you for your partnership through this pandemic. We could not do all that we do without you. I am grateful for our students, staff, parents and especially our Alief community members who are the driving force as we navigate these uncharted waters. Thank you all!
