Gifted & Talented
The goal of Alief’s gifted program is to meet the diverse needs of gifted learners by providing differentiated instruction and opportunities for students to elaborate, think originally, think flexibly, and produce new ideas as they become self-directed learners who are competent in thinking, research, and communication.
O’Donnell presently has 73 students enrolled in our GT Identified program for the 2016-2017 school year. Each GT student participates in one or more of the following opportunities: the GT Mini Showcase, Science Fair, Academic plus Challenge, and Battle of the Books.
All of the students have had the opportunity to partake in our GT/AP program through: open enrollment by course selection; GT/AP awareness through parent nights; AVID; and GT nominations and screening. We have a total of 100 % of AP teachers with professional development for the initial 30 hours and all continue AP/GT teachers with 6 hrs. update. Two Teachers have been afforded the opportunity to attend the Rice Institute this summer, to grow the program. There are a total of 335 Pre/AP/GT students enrolled in one or more Pre AP classes.
