21st Century Workforce
O’Donnell Middle School (ODMS) staff values 21st Century Workforce Development by providing opportunities through various programs and organizations. All students participate in career assessments, explore and research college and career resources in our web based College and Career Readiness platform, Naviance. Students have opportunities to visit college and early college high school campuses, attend professional guest speaker presentations, Alief ISD College and Career Symposium, Career Days, and participate in Science Fairs. Moreover, O’Donnell Middle School established a strong partnership with Junior Achievement (JA) to implement their curriculum. The curriculum was educationally infused through various programs, activities, and classes to benefit our students. We had quality volunteer guest speakers/presenters from the community who came to our school to “deliver proven, hands-on programming that inspires students to understand the opportunities provided by education.” In addition, students participated in JA Inspire which provided them with an interactive college and career readiness experience at the George R. Brown. We also work with business and industry partners to provide opportunities such as college and career presentations and STEM summer programs through Houston Community College (HCC). Furthermore, students participate in the Rockets Science STEM workshops and field trips in collaboration with NASA and HCC, learning opportunities for CTE students via the Mobile Science and Engineering Exhibit Trailer from Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering (TAME). Students are also motivated and encouraged through their participation in the Alief Mentor Program, Student Assistance Program (SAP), and recognizing and motivating students’ success through the Super Terrific Absolutely Remarkable Student (STARS) program.
