Alief offers many program options for advanced level students through the Advanced Academic Studies Department. Students who are identified as gifted through the district's screening process are eligible for elementary gifted services: PEP and Quest, Elementary AIMS, and Intermediate AIMS. Identified GT students receive GT services through the Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP) and Advanced Placement (AP) classes in middle and high school. All students may sign up for Pre-AP and AP courses through the open enrollment process.
The goal of Alief’s Advanced Academic Studies Department is to provide differentiated opportunities for students to elaborate, think originally, think flexibly, and produce new ideas as they become self-directed learners who are competent in thinking, research, and communications.
The Advanced Academic Studies Department also works to promote college awareness and college preparation through Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), and to provide access to college entrance testing opportunities (PSAT, SAT & ACT) throughout the school year .Monica N. Baines
