2007–08 GUIDELINES
Monday, August 27, is the first day of classes for the 2007–08
school year in the Alief Independent School District.
Prior to the Start of School
The first
registration periods for new students are:
Tuesday & Wednesday, August 14 & 15 8:00 am
– 1:30 pm All Campuses
Thursday, August 16
12:00 pm – 7:00 pm All Campuses
Friday, August 17

Registration Hours During the School Year
High School 7:30 am – 11:30 am
Elementary, Intermediate, & Middle Schools 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
These hours have been established by the district and will be
followed by all campuses for the 2007 – 08 school year. Patrons will
be accommodated for registration Monday through Friday and
appointments are not necessary. Patrons who wish to register at
hours other than the posted times are to be accommodated if they
have a sufficient reason (taken time off from work).

28.
Children who are at
least 5 years of age and under 21 years of age by September 1, 2007, and
who reside in Alief ISD may attend Alief schools. For
prekindergarten qualifications,
please see below.
Currently enrolled students who change attendance zones must also
register. In addition, any change of address within an
attendance zone must be reported to district officials.
Students in elementary through
middle school grades should register at the
school in the attendance zone where the home is located.
Parents who are unsure of their attendance zone may call 281-498-8110,
ext. 6610, 5940, or 2240. Attendance zone maps are available from the
Community-School Relations Department (ext. 2240).
All high school students (grades 9–12)
who are new to the district should register at
the Administrative Support Facility, 14051 Bellaire. Students are assigned by a random-draw system to
Elsik, Hastings,
or Taylor High School.
Students interested in attending Kerr High School may apply for admission
following the draw assignment. (Call 281-983-8484 for information about
Kerr, a smaller high school where students pursue personalized
academic plans and work independently or in small groups with
teacher support.)
Required enrollment documents:
State-certified birth certificate (PK/K must have an original birth
certificate)
Most recent report card
Immunization records
Two proofs of residence (deed, lease, bank
statement, and/or most recent utility
bill)
Students social security number
Photo ID of parent or guardian
Note: A parent/legal guardian must accompany a student under the age of 18.
Bilingual
program registration:
Bilingual
(Spanish-English) education is available for qualifying students in
prekindergarten through grade 6. Students must first register at their home school (the school in their attendance zone) before
going to their assigned bilingual campus.
Prekindergarten:
Alief ISDs
prekindergarten program for the 2007-2008 school year will be offered at all elementary
campuses.
To enroll in Alief
ISDs prekindergarten program, a child must be 4
years old by September 1, 2007, and meet one of the following requirements:
• Inability to speak or comprehend the English language
• Active
Military Duty
OR
• Household income at or below the subsistence level as defined by the
State Board of Education. Children who do not speak or comprehend English will be tested during
registration. If qualifying by income, documentation of all sources of income to all
members of the household must be submitted in addition to the required
enrollment documentation listed above.
